Human Rights Violations Lawsuits

What are human rights violations?

Human rights violations breach the standards set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Human rights violations can occur in a wide variety of situations, such as nursing home abuse, wartime slavery or savagery, issues pertaining to the Vatican, Nazis, hate groups, terrorists, religious institutions and atrocities, as well as a number of other instances.

Among other things, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person, no one shall be held in slavery or servitude, no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment, a person charged with an offense is innocent until proven guilty, no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his/her property, and any abuse of these natural rights will be considered human rights violations.

Human rights violations occur in the United States as well as countries around the world. Human rights violations can be civil or criminal in nature. In criminal human rights violations, a person is charged, must be proven to be guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt, and will be punished with fines, prison, or restitution if found guilty. In a civil human rights violations case, it is usually an organization that is charged, there must be substantial evidence, and the policies and practices in question will be corrected if the organization is found guilty. People’s rights are constantly being challenged and abused around the world, and human rights violations lawsuits can help to rectify inhumane, unethical, and unconstitutional practices.
