Avandia Lawsuit on the Horizon Following FDA Report

Avandia, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline PLC, is used to treat Type 2 diabetes. More than six million people all over the world have used the drug, however, as many as 100,000 heart attacks may be linked to the drug.

In 42 separate Avandia studies by Dr. Steven Nissen at the Cleveland clinic, they concluded that Avandia raises the risk of heart attacks and heart-related deaths by 43 percent when compared to people not using the drug or other diabetes drugs.

Serious Avandia Side Effects Include: Heart Failure, Swelling (edema) or fluid retention, especially in the ankles or legs, Heart Problems related to reduced blood flow to the heart including Angina (heart-related chest pain) or myocardial infarction (heart attack); also: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), Fractures and Liver Problems.
